Breaking Stereotypes with The Engineers Band

Hailing from different states and musical preferences, the Noida based four-member pop-rock act has inculcated the concept of ‘diversity’ immaculately into their creative process. The Engineers’ music, as described by themselves, can be considered to be a palette of emotions and feelings that draw similarities to one’s own life. Having released their debut EP last month, with support of a few music videos, the music was well received with the general populace owing to it’s simplicity in language and theme but the band struggles to find enough relevant live stages to showcase their work.

We got in touch with the band to know more about their own musical journey. Read below to gain insight into how the band came around to creating and producing their music.

Listen to their debut release ‘Dastaan’
1. Tell us about your band.

The band was formed in the year 2017. The moto of the band is to break stereotypes in various genres prevailing in the independent Indian music scene. We want to prove that pop music does not need to be dumb.

2. Which bands/artists were your first love and who is your biggest influence?

It’s hard to mention any particular name specially when it comes to choosing a single artist as a favourite one. We listen to almost all of the genres from western classical to Indian classical to even hard-core metal and rap rock. With us, we try to put different feelings and genres in our songs which basically connect us to our audience.

3. You released your debut EP called “Daastan”. Tell us a bit about it.

DAASTAN is about seeing life from a different person’s eyes witnessing the harsh and good happened with them. The EP carries motivational, patriotic, broken heart and an eye opening thoughts delivering the message to self-open and raging voice against the wrong happening around.

4. What’s your music making and recording process like?

We do not have any specific process for music making. Each member come up with different ideas for a song we are working on. It starts from compiling audio notes from our phones which gets shaped into a basic demo first. Once we have the basic structure of the song we work next on production of the song. Once everything is sorted we get ready for the studio.

5. Why do you make music? What drives you as a band?

Because music is the only language we could speak or express our feelings to people in. Which, when we see dedicating our song to someone or people understanding the message we want to spread, that is our driving moment.

6. Which Indian bands or artists do you admire?

Indus Creed, Pentagram, K.K, Kailash kher

7. What according to you is the biggest challenge that you or any independent musician faces in today’s time?

Marketing, Branding and exposure.

8. What’s your take on the independent music scene in India?

Since the democratisation of our music industry and continuous reformation in the recording technology has enabled a lot of people to produce their own record and have a portfolio, the scene has become incredibly crowded and competitive. So it has become incredibly difficult for the bands with potential, lacking necessary funds, to stand out apart from the competition. Skill level does matter in terms of performance musicality and professionalism in different artist. But when it comes to venue, generally a cheaper artist is preferred unless you are already a brand.
